Decorating Home Electric Fireplaces

Decorating Home Electric Fireplaces

Christmas is not the only season that your home electric fireplace should look good.  Have your fireplace looking great the whole year.  Here are some tips in sprucing your fireplace.

If your fireplace has a mantel, it is perfect for displaying decorative items.  Change your decoration with special occasions.  You can decorate your fireplace with birthday cards and banners for birthdays or go Gothic on Halloween with some spooky decors and mini pumpkins.

If there are no special occasion to base your décor on,  take your cue from the season.  Decorate your fireplace with orange and brown motifs with pine cones in a glass bowl.  During spring,  a bouquet of flowers would look wonderful. Hanging seasonal wreaths is also a wonderful way to celebrate the season.  Put lamps for mood lighting or install scones for further decoration.

If you want a decoration that's appropriate the whole year for your fireplace,  try a classy designed mirror.  Or if it is located in the center of your room,  follow some Feng Shui principle and add a waterscape painting to neutralize the excess of fire elements in the room and keep the flow of positive energy free to invite good luck.  Avoid too much clutter to create a relaxed atmosphere.

Decorations on mantels also depend on where the fireplace is located and the general theme of the room.  For bedroom fireplaces,  you can put personal favorites such as favorite figurines and pictures.  Pillows that match your mantel décor would look inviting.  Living room fireplaces are usually the focal point of the room.  You can add a fireplace tool set that matches the design of your mantel.  Add some period antiques and you get a classy room. The fireplace in your den or home office shouls look semi-formal  to impress customers or clients.  Decorate them with quill pens and paperweights for effect. Or you can put some accents like your favorite coffee cup or busts of famous people that you admire.

The holidays, of course are the best time for you to decorate your fireplace.  It becomes an even more important part of your house as this is where Santa comes through to give the kids presents.  Make sure you have a table with cookies and a glass milk or a cup of cocoa ready when Santa slides down through that chimney.  Decorate them with Christmas stockings with the kids' names so Santa knows which gift goes to whose stocking.

If your fireplace is an original wood burning fireplace with electric insert, you can do a lot of things for a makeover.  Painting the brick around the fireplace is an inexpensive way of transforming your fireplace from just shabby to shabby chic.  If you have a cottage, try using light colors such as pale yellow or cream.  Tan, chocolate brown or black goes well with a modern apartment.  Paint the mantel with either with a contrasting hue or the same hue as the brick.  If you want to maintain the authentic look, use brick stain.
